Caesarean Scar Therapy

Support for your scar, however long it has been since your caesarean.

Caesarean scar therapy uses gentle, hands-on techniques to work with the scar and surrounding tissues, helping to improve comfort, movement and how you feel about your scar.

Every scar is different, so every appointment is tailored to you.

Could scar therapy help me?

You might be experiencing:

  • Tightness or pulling around your scar

  • Sensitivity or discomfort

  • Numbness or altered sensation

  • Restriction around your abdomen

  • Changes in how the tissues around your scar feel or move

  • Uncertainty about touching or massaging your scar

Or you may simply want to understand your scar better and learn how to care for it at home.

What happens at your appointment?

Your appointment lasts 60 minutes and begins with a consultation and assessment of your scar and surrounding tissues.

We'll talk about how your scar feels, any concerns you have and what you would like to achieve.

Together, we'll set realistic treatment goals and discuss what may be achievable for your individual scar.

Your treatment may include gentle scar massage and soft tissue techniques, followed by personalised self-care advice and techniques to continue at home.

Will I need more than one appointment?

Some people may get what they need from one session, while others may benefit from further treatment. This depends entirely on what you want to achieve from your sessions. It may take one treatment, it may take several.

We'll discuss this honestly following your assessment. There is no expectation to book a course of treatment.

Is scar therapy suitable for me?

Scar therapy can be suitable for both newer and older caesarean scars, but your skin must be fully closed and healed before treatment.

Treatment should not be carried out if you have:

  • An open or unhealed wound

  • Signs of infection

  • Bleeding, discharge or wound breakdown

  • New or unexplained redness, heat, swelling or significant pain

  • Been advised by a healthcare professional not to have treatment in the area

If anything during your consultation suggests that treatment isn't currently appropriate, we may recommend seeking further medical advice before proceeding.
